COTR LIVES

January 20, 2013

FIRST, A THANK YOU

Thanks so much to two people who pointed out some broken links in my last post about the new COTR website for my The Coins of the Realm novels, stories, and possibly (coming soon, I hope) comics.  Melanie from Deliberate Donkey, as well as my lifelong buddy and back-watcher, Seth, both pointed out that I’m about as inept at doing this as one can be by helping me fix some broken links.  Please visit Melanie’s blog and check out her awesome work, follow her, and maybe she’ll watch your back, too.  I don’t think Seth has a blog, so you can just send him money.

TYPOS, WORDOS, BRAINOS, CRAIGOS

I make ‘em all.  I do all the work on COWBOYS DONT SWIM and COTR myself (obviously), so there’s no editor, no proofreader, and no one smarter than me to watch out for mistakes…other than those who follow the blogs.  Thus, I’m eternally grateful to those who have pointed out errors in the past, and hope all my readers will continue to do so in the future.  For  my blogging, I tend to think fast is better than perfect, since I try to reserve perfection (not to mention as much of my dwindling free time as possible) for my writing (where I also fail miserably and make typos, wordos…)  This is probably because one of my mutant powers is high-speed typing with very low accuracy.

COMMUNITY

Most important to me is the idea of creating a real community.  Here at Cowboys Don’t Swim I’m primarily looking to hook up with and help out fellow writers who have taken, are in now, or–most importantly–are wondering if they should enroll in an MFA in creative writing.  I hope my fellow MFAers will comment often and ask questions, as I want to provide whatever insight I can.

Over at COTR, my goal is a bit different.  I’m hoping to have a big community of fantasy fans and gamers.  My goal with COTR is to create a world that readers will love visiting, a world where the relationships, the conflicts, the combat, the magic, and the storytelling give readers what they want when they come to fantasy writing–that perfect escape, and that sense of being part of something heroic.  A world that never disappoints.

If you’re running a blog about your own fantasy novels, your own gaming group, or anything else related, please do follow and comment.  I guarantee a dialogue, attention to your questions, and ideas, and of course…I’ll follow you back and share thoughts on your work, too.  Positive, encouraging, helpful thoughts.  I’m all about the love.

Thanks to everyone who is already following the two blogs.  I love you people.  Like…deeply.  The way I love…nicotine, caffeine, the American Dream, and…fine…it’s true…bikini models.  Thank you.

  1. Congrats on the new blog. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but loving every minute. :)

    • I haven’t been able to see the plate for a long time, but I bet you’re the same way. If there’s space on my plate, I get worried that I’m not working hard enough. Thanks for your kind wishes.
